Do I need permissions from the Utility Company or Regulatory authorities to install a Solar Power System?
Only in case of a grid-tied or grid-connected solar power system an approval is required from the Utility Company / Electricity Distribution Company & a “Power Purchase Agreement” needs to be entered into for the homeowner to be able to export, or, send to the grid network, solar power that is in excess of what can be consumed by the appliances.
In case of a hybrid solar power system there are no approvals required as long as the solar power is being used entirely for self- consumption. Certain utilities allow solar power from storage based systems also to be exported to the grid network in which case approvals would be required as described above.
